My thoughts on Bio 10A & Chem 1A

Yikes! Here I go entering 16 weeks of some serious biology and chemistry. This picture represents my complex feeling’s about it.
Biology makes me feel all warm and fuzzy and chemistry makes me feel like I need a hug from my mom!

The eSTEM Aquaponics team has been busy kicking off the new school year by setting up prototype aquaponics systems in the Science Village. System designs include a vertical (gutter) system, barrelponics, hybrid design, and media bed design.  The Aquaponics team works to increase our leadership skills, our resume building, and the practical application of STEM technologies.

Our goal is to provide a tangible method of food production that any resident in any living condition can be a part of. Our projects include engaging with local government to fund and maintain solutions to food and water scarcity, educating our community on growing their own food with minimal supplies, and sharing technology with the growing global aquaponics community.

Introduction

Hello, my name is Tanner Lakin. An interesting story about myself is that i almost lost my eye on my 10th birthday. I was swinging on a rope swing in my backyard with one of my friends and i ended up swinging into the bushes. There was a branch sticking out and the branch impaled the space right below my eye. There were several splinters in my eye that had to be removed and a rigorous cleaning process and bandaging that had to be done. Parts of the branch were centimeters from my eye. I don’t know why i thought of this story today, but I guess it shows my luck.

About Me

I was a stubborn baby, I refused to get out of my mother’s womb for two weeks, and they had to get me out of there (C-section). I am fluent in three of the top 15 most spoken language in the world.

Awesome Start!

I’m taking this as a good sign…all our students were on time to class which started at 7:15 AM. After a comparison of chemistry and biology, students worked at various water stations for a chemistry review. Understanding the chemical properties of water is necessary to understand why it essential to life on this planet!

Interesting Me

Interesting MeThe only interesting thing about me that I can think of would have to be that my interest in the medical field, primarily oncology started when I was twelve and experienced losing my mother due to her fight with breast cancer. Before that I was leaning more towards veterinary medicine, however afterwards oncology imtrigued me a great deal.
Yesterday’s class introduction into this paired learning class has me totally stoked just because both of the professors are both leading both of these difficult classes. Also the resources that are available to us seem totally awesome! There are like three flat screen tvs and the SI instructors sound extremely helpful.

My sports skills

My sports skills

One of the most interesting things about me is related to my athletic skills. From a very young age, i used to do many sports and i was very talented in most of them. Swimming, soccer, tennis, beach volley and table tennis were some of those sports. However, as i was growing, i decided that it was time for me to focus only on one sport, the one that i liked most. As a result, i chose to concentrate in soccer and pursue a career. When i turned sixteen years old, i was chosen to play for the national team of Greece for the under eighteen ages. By the end of the year, i found myself getting rewarded for being the first scorer in the championship, while at the same time was getting transferred to a professional team. Everything seemed to work out perfectly for me and the fact that i was only eighteen years old encouraged me even more. However, that year turned out to be the worst of my life. During one of the championship matches, i got severely injured and as a result i had to quit soccer, even though i had all the potential to succeed.

Something about ME!

Something about ME!Hello Everyone!
My name is Wendy Gip. I come from a BIG family; I am the youngest of seven siblings. Since I have such a big family, my house is usually really loud and noisy. When I want to get some peace and quiet, I usually go up to the mountains with my friends to look at the stars and see the city lights from afar. Since we live in the city, it is rare that we actually get to see the stars in the sky. When I go up to the mountains, it’s like I’m in a different world. It is beautiful up there, being up there lets me see the world in different perspective especially if I’m having a bad day. Every Christmas, my friends and I gather there to exchange gifts because none of us have Christmas trees. The city lights below us are our Christmas tree and have been for years. I wanted to share this with you hoping one day you will go and see the stars and city light. It is a magically place…..
