Introduction to Pre-Health Sciences
Because of the aging population and expanding health care job market, there is a national and local shortage of health-care providers. Health Science professionals are in high demand and job choices and opportunities are abundant.
Professional Health Science careers are very flexible – you can choose from a variety of employment settings from any of the nine program areas. The work hours, scheduling, and variety are very favorable in Health Sciences.
Health Science careers are also available in all settings: from the country to the city; from hospitals to private clinics. The Health Sciences Division offers certificates and degrees leading to dynamic and rewarding health careers in the nine program areas: Medical Assisting, Dental Assisting, Dental Laboratory Technology, Dental Hygiene, Emergency Medical Technician, Radiologic Technology, Registered Nursing, Licensed Vocational Nursing, and Certified Nursing Assistant.
PCC has a great reputation in our community for graduating professional, competent healthcare professionals. Our full- and part-time faculty and staff are committed to student success. Tutoring programs and campus lab activities support our student success efforts. Professional student organizations and community service projects also help students develop their leadership skills and forge new friendships.
Students who complete degrees and certificates in the Health Sciences Division are students who are committed to life-long learning, often continuing their education at a university. - The Transfer Guaranteed Admission (TAG) is a commitment that selected colleges and universities make to PCC students who meet basic transfer requirements. Students who complete an agreed upon sequence of classes in general education and a selected major with a stated minimum GPA can apply to the four-year institution within a prescribed time-frame and be “guaranteed admission.” Read More.

- Mount Saint Mary’s College (MSMC)
- Located in Los Angeles, CA, Mount Saint Mary’s College Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN) is three years of nursing coursework as well as other required and elective courses. Students begin nursing classes during the sophomore year. Graduates of the BSN nursing program are eligible for certification as public health nurses and for licensure as registered nurses. Read More

- Azusa Pacific’s B.S. in Nursing offers a special option for students who have completed 60 or more transferable semester units of college credit in prerequisite and general education courses. The Two-Plus-Two program allows students to complete the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) in six consecutive semesters, including summers. Read More

- The School of Nursing at LA County College of Nursing offers an Associate of Science degree in Nursing. Students that complete the program are eligible to apply for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN). Read More.
- Cal State University, Los Angeles (CSULA)
- CSULA offers a B.S. degree for basic (pre-licensure) students and transfer RN students (those who have completed the ADN degree). Students who complete CSULA’s undergraduate program will have knowledge and skills for generalist professional nursing practice and will be qualified to assume leadership roles. Read More.
- Cal State University, Northridge (CSUN)
- CSUN offers a Reistered Nurse (RN) to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree pathway for students with an associate degree or equivalent in nursing and RN licensure. Students may attend full-time or part time and several of the nursing courses combine live and on-line instruction. Read More.

- The Ostrow School of Dentistry at USC offers a 5-trimester Dental Hygiene program where students earn a Bachelor of Science degree and are prepared to work in clinical and preventive dental hygiene. Read More

Job Career Information
Within the Health Sciences there are a number of careers and options depending on the amount of schooling you complete. Within one semester you can be on your way to working as a Certified Nursing Assistant; on the other hand, you can get your Masters or PhD and work as a RN or APRN — the sky is really the limit.
